HACKENSACK — The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday that it will double down on efforts to treat heroin and opioid addiction as a disease rather than a crime by allowing addicts to seek help at local police departments. The Heroin Addiction Recovery Team program, created by Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal and set to launch by May 1, will pair drug counselors with law enforcement at three municipal police departments: Mahwah, Paramus and Lyndhurst.
